Koa Talent Collective garners it’s name and inspiration from the treasured Koa Tree of Hawai’i
In ancient Hawaiian culture, wood from the strong and resilient Koa Tree was the foundation for crafting essential tools such as canoes, weaponry and shelters, so much so that the Koa Tree became synonymous with the warriors or “Koa” who depended on it. Here at Koa Talent Collective, much like the wood from the Koa tree, we leverage our foundational knowledge and expertise to craft tailor made solutions, empowering our clients to effectively address any talent or recruiting challenge they may encounter. Meet the Founder
Kayla Meyer, Founder
Kayla began her recruiting career nearly 11 years ago when she joined a recruiting agency fresh out of college. There, she discovered her passion for connecting talented individuals with opportunities they were truly passionate about. However, she grew disenchanted with the numbers-driven and often impersonal "bullpen" environment that stereotypical agencies often fostered. Hoping to find a more people-centered approach to recruiting, she made the transition to an internal role and joined a small tech startup. Here, she had the privilege of working alongside incredible mentors who helped her elevate her recruiting and recruiting operations skills while taking on increasing responsibilities.
Four years down the line, an investment company acquired the startup where Kayla had honed her talents. Unfortunately, she, along with nearly all non-technical staff, faced a round of layoffs. Turning this adversity into an opportunity, Kayla embarked on a journey that led her to Bird Scooters, where she became one of the earliest members of the recruiting team. Here, she played a pivotal role in building and scaling recruiting and recruiting operations.
Her career continued to ascend as she transitioned to TikTok, where she spearheaded the development and leadership of Recruiting Operations for the entire Americas division. Later, she embarked on a new challenge at Gemini Crypto Exchange, embracing a more comprehensive Talent Operations leadership role.
In 2023, coming full circle, Kayla founded Koa Talent Collective. Her driving vision was to address the gaps in the labor market and establish an agency that fully embraced the data-driven, people-centered approach to recruiting that had always been at the core of her career.
